I haven't heard of diving for mantas at the Gili Islands, but then I've only been to Gili T and it was a while ago so I could be wrong. Manta sightings are pretty reliable at Manta Point or Manta Bay on Nusa Penida - usually they will be at one of the other but the dive shops always seem to have a way of knowing which one.
We were supposed to leave at 11 am, which was changed to 2pm. We paid extra for at direct boat from Gili Air - Sanur, due to some sevear seasickness. The boat did stop at Lombok aswell as Nusa Penida before going to Sanur. We waited 70 minuts on the water outside Nusa Penida (the staff told us it would only be 20 min, max) before going to Sanur.
How many days should you spend in Nusa Penida? If you want to see the entire island and don’t want to rush your stay, you should spend 2 or 3 days on the island. However, it is doable in a day! When you’re in Bali, you can get the speedboat from Sanur to Nusa Penida in the morning and go back to Bali in the afternoon.
